Trial runs were conducted on the 7 km Noapara-Airport stretch of the Noapara-Barasat corridor under the Kolkata metro expansion project on December 14, 2024. The stations covered under the stretch are Noapara, Dum Dum Cantonment, Jessore Road and Airport. Besides, the stretch is likely to be operational by March 2025.
The project involves expansion of the existing metro rail network in Kolkata in West Bengal by 88.55 km with an investment of Rs 193.94 billion. The expansion plan includes Joka to Benoy Badal Dinesh (BBD) Bagh-Diamond Park (18.72 km), Noapara to Barasat via Airport (Bimanbandar) (18.13 km), Airport to Kavi Subhas (New Garia) via Rajarhat (32 km), Baranagar to Barrackpore and Dakshineswar (14.5 km), and Dum Dum to Baranagar (5.2 km).
