According to Indian Ports Association (IPA), the Indian major ports handled 67.53 million tonnes (mt) of cargo traffic in November 2024, compared to 71.05 mt in November 2023, registering a decline of 4.95 per cent.
Among major ports, cargo traffic at Jawaharlal Nehru Port increased by 12.34 per cent in November 2024 and Deendayal Port reported 10.10 per cent increase in November 2024 as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
Meanwhile, cargo traffic at the remaining 10 major ports witnessed a year-on-year decline. According to IPA, Mormugao Port recorded a 29.64 per cent year-over-year decline in cargo traffic, while New Mangalore Port witnessed a 19 per cent decrease in cargo traffic in November 2024 as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
