Central Railway (CR) has generated traction power of 10 per cent and non-traction power of 6.5 per cent by utilising renewable energy sources. Solar power is the primary source of renewable energy for the zone, and hence, solar panels have been installed at 205 locations across its five divisions.
Besides, division-wise, power generated through solar energy consists of 5.56 million units (MU) in Mumbai division which led to savings of 4,557.2 tonnes of carbon footprint, 1.35 MU in Bhusaval division with savings of 1,108.8 tonnes of carbon footprint, 0.96 MU in Pune division with savings of 784.4 tonnes of carbon footprint, 0.09 MU in Nagpur division with savings of 76.8 tonnes of carbon footprint and 0.08 MU in Solapur division with savings of 67.6 tonnes of carbon footprint. With this, CR has saved a total of Rs 46.2 million.
