Public Investment Board has approved the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase III. Besides, Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited has initiated geotechnical soil testing, utility diversion planning/tenders, and structural design for the project. The project spans 60 km and is likely to have 41 elevated stations in total. There are three major corridors planned under the project which includes:
Thaltej Gam – Badrabad passing via Godhavi, starting from Shilaj Canal Road along the Sardar Patel Ring Road, covering key areas like Bopal and Shantipura. The corridor ends at Badrabad (near the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway), which is planned as a future integration point for extensions toward the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) and Dholera International Airport.
Vadaj Circular Metro Loop is a circular Metro line starting and ending at Vadaj, designed to bypass central city congestion. It covers major points including Akhbarnagar, Naranpura, Shivranjani, Shyamal Crossroads, Jivraj Park, APMC, Pirana, Isanpur, Amraiwadi, Rakhial Road, and Dudheshwar. Key interchange stations are being planned at Gujarat University, APMC, Amraiwadi, and Vadaj.
The project is also likely to provide direct metro connection to the South West Ahmedabad Sports Arena at Godhavi.
