The construction work on a 10 million litres per day (mld) sewage treatment plant (STP) located at Langs Garden area in Egmore, Tamil Nadu has been completed. Currently, the STP is under trial run and is likely to commence operations in August 2024.
The scope of work included the construction of a 10 mld STP based on tertiary-treated ultra-filtration system technology for the treatment of wastewater released from residential areas such as Egmore, Pudupet, Chintadripet, Greams Road, Thousand Lights, and Nungambakkam. The treated water will be used in buildings owned by railways and the corporation in the core city and rejuvenation of the Cooum river.
Besides, another tertiary-treated ultrafiltration system technology based 10 mld STP plant is under construction at Perungudi, Tamil Nadu. The treated sewage from the plant will help in Pallikaranai Marshland rejuvenation.
