The Prime Minister of India has laid the foundation stone for a 250 MW/500 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Tamil Nadu, being implemented by NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NLC India Limited.
The project will be developed across three locations in Tamil Nadu – 100 MW/200 MWh each at Anuppankulam in Virudhunagar district and Ottapidaram in Thoothukudi district, and 50 MW/100 MWh at Kayathar in Thoothukudi district. The system has been designed to provide energy storage support during critical morning and evening peak-demand periods. The project is part of a Rs 130 billion development programme launched by the Prime Minister in Tamil Nadu.
