The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) is planning to replace old and damaged pipelines across Chennai for the improvement of water supply and wastage reduction.
The scope of work includes the improvement of the existing water distribution network in the core city, covering zones such as Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar, Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam, and Adyar. In the first phase, the work will commence in Kodambakkam and Adyar.
Besides, a detailed project report has been prepared by the Water Corporation of Odisha for constructing Pallipattu Water Distribution Station, covering depots 169, 170, 173, 174, 178, 179, and Tiruvanmiyur WDS, covering depot 180. In these areas, 9.75 km of damaged pipeline will be replaced with 23.13 km of new pipeline, bringing the total replacement length to 32.88 km. The estimated cost of the work is Rs 4,974 million.
The work will commence in October 2024 and will likely be completed by September 2026.
