ILS at Kalaburagi airport inaugurated

The instrument landing system (ILS) was inaugurated at the Kalaburagi Airport, facilitating smooth and safe aircraft operations even in adverse weather conditions including rains and low cloud cover.

The ILS installation comprises of processes including successful installation, testing, and flight inspection. The ILS project worth Rs 121.2 million indicates efforts by the AAI for upgrading infrastructure and ensuring safe and efficient air travel across the country. The ILS is a precision radio navigation system that guides aircraft for landing approaches, especially in situations of limited visibility, bad weather, and at night. A minimum visibility of 5 km was earlier mandated under the visual flight rules (VFR), but with the ILS, the requirement reduced to 800 m.
