The Union Government inaugurated the Warangal-Kazipet, Nekonda-Mahabubabad and Errupalem-Dornakal Junction sections of the Kazipet-Vijayawada Third Line Project along with the Kazipet Rail Under Bypass Line Project on May 10, 2026.
The Kazipet-Vijayawada Third Line Project involves tripling the 219.64 km rail corridor between Kazipet and Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh at an estimated cost of Rs 19.52 billion. The project was sanctioned in the Union Budget 2012-13 and was initially proposed to be implemented under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Further, the Kazipet Rail Under Bypass Line Project involved construction of a bypass rail line from Kazipet to ease congestion and streamline rail traffic movement in the region.
