The Union Government inaugurated various rail projects in West Bengal on March 1, 2024. The first is the 90-km long Jhargram-Salgajhari rail section of the Kharagpur-Adityapur railway third line project which involves development of a third line between Kharagpur and Adityapur in West Bengal and Jharkhand, respectively covering a distance of 132 km with an investment of Rs 11.16 billion. The second is the Sondalia-Champapukur line doubling project which involves doubling of the existing 23.64 km long rail line between Sondalia and Champapukur in West Bengal, with an investment of Rs 2.7 billion. The third is the Dankuni-Bhattanagar rail line doubling project which involves doubling of the 6.5 km long rail line between Dankuni-Bhattanagar with material modification of 2.44 km long Bhattanagar-Baltikuri rail section in West Bengal at an estimated cost of Rs 1.04 billion.
