Surya Regional Bulk Water Supply Scheme gets inaugurated

The central government inaugurated the Surya Regional Bulk Water Supply Scheme on January 12, 2024. Currently, about 88 per cent of the construction work has been completed. The project is likely to be fully commissioned in 2024. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) Development Authority is implementing a regional water supply scheme with the Surya river as the source. It will provide 403 million litres per day (mld) bulk water supply for meeting the water requirement of 185 mld at Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation and 218 mld at Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation including rental housing complexes and 27 villages located in the Western Sub Region of MMR. It is being developed by Larsen and Toubro Limited at an estimated cost of Rs 13.26 billion.
