ATC tower and technical block operational

Following clearance from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the newly constructed air traffic control tower (ATC) and technical block at the Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport became operational on December 7, 2023. Air traffic controllers would have a 360-degree view of the airport and the operational area with the 25-metre tower. New air traffic services (NATS) and control tower (CT) building have been built by the AAI. State-of-the-art communication, navigation and surveillance (CNS) facilities, such as VHF radios, digital automatic terminal information service (DATIS) and recorders have also been installed. The new voice control system is IP-based, and the new recorder can accommodate more lines or channels. Further, the new terminal building is currently under construction and spans an area of around 65,155 square metres and is targeted for completion by December 2024. Further, it is targeted to handle 3,000 passengers during peak hours and has an annual passenger handling capacity of around 8 million.
