Government releases Flight and Maritime Connectivity Rules, 2018; to form IMG for rolling out services by March 2019

The government has released a notification announcing the Flight and Maritime Connectivity Rules, 2018. Under the rules, Indian and foreign airlines as well as shipping companies operating in the country can provide in-flight and maritime voice and data services in partnership with a licensed Indian telecom operator after obtaining permission from the Department of Space. Further, the government has also decided to form an inter-ministerial group for rolling out in-flight and maritime connectivity services by March 2019.
