The Kerala government has granted in-principle approval for the development of the Parvathy-Puthanar canal as a NW under the Kerala inland water transport project (NW-3). The waterway will be developed at a cost of Rs 1.5 billion. The canal forms a major part of the Kovalam-Kollam stretch for which the state government has made an allocation of Rs 80 million under the 2018-19 state budget.
