62 vessels to be added in 2026-27 with Rs 513.83 billion investment

The government of India plans to add 62 vessels in 2026-27, backed by an investment of Rs 513.83 billion, creating an additional 2.85 million gross tonnage (GT) capacity. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to build a self-reliant (“Atmanirbhar”) shipping ecosystem, with coordination across ministries, oil public sector undertakings (PSUs), and key maritime bodies.

Additionally, the Shipping Corporation of India is being positioned to develop specialised vessels, including those for transporting ammonia, supporting future energy needs.
