The centre has inaugurated the 594 km Ganga Expressway worth Rs 362.30 billion in Hardoi, a milestone project designed to significantly enhance connectivity across Uttar Pradesh. This six-lane, access-controlled greenfield expressway, developed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) links Meerut in the western Uttar Pradesh to Prayagraj in the eastern Uttar Pradesh, passing through 12 districts – Meerut, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj. Additionally, this project will reduce travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj from the current 10-12 hours to around six hours, improving passenger movement and freight efficiency.
The expressway has been planned as a broader economic corridor, with integrated manufacturing and logistics hubs proposed over nearly 2,635 hectares along the route. These facilities are expected to reduce logistics costs, strengthen supply chains and improve industrial competitiveness. Another major feature of the project is a 3.5-km emergency landing facility in Shahjahanpur district, designed for dual civilian and defence use. The airstrip is expected to enhance strategic preparedness while adding operational value to the corridor.
The Ganga Expressway will integrate with Uttar Pradesh’s growing expressway network, including the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Jewar Link Expressway and Farrukhabad Link Expressway, creating wider east-west and north-south connectivity across the state.
