Tunnel breakthrough achieved in tunnel MT-07 under Mumbai-Ahmedabad HSR Project

National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) achieved tunnel breakthrough of tunnel MT-07 in
Maharashtra under the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (HSR) Corridor Project on June 1, 2026.
The tunnel is 417-m long and 14.4-m wide and is located at Ambesari village, Dahanu taluka of Palghar
district.
Besides, tunnel breakthrough for tunnel MT-05, spanning 1.5 km, was achieved near Saphale in Palghar
district on January 2, 2026. This was followed by the second breakthrough of tunnel MT-06 on February 3,
2026, involving a 454-m long tunnel excavated using New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM).
Of the total eight mountain tunnels under the project, seven are located in Palghar district of Maharashtra
and one in Valsad district of Gujarat, where tunnelling work has already been completed. Among the seven
mountain tunnels under construction in Maharashtra, MT-05, MT-06 and MT-07, MT-08 have achieved
breakthroughs. MT-03 has crossed 80 per cent excavation progress, MT-04 has reached nearly 60 per cent
progress.
The project involves development of the 508.17 km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad HSR corridor in Maharashtra
and Gujarat with an investment of Rs 1,080 billion. It is being implemented by NHSRCL, incorporated by the
Ministry of Railways (MoR) and the respective state governments of Maharashtra and Gujarat with an equity
stake of 50:25:25 respectively.
