The Delhi government has allocated Rs 90 billion to the water and sanitation sector for FY 2026-27. Of the total sum, Rs 15 billion will be utilised for constructing sewage treatment plants with a combined capacity of 480 million gallons per day under the National Mission for Clean Ganga. Further, with a target to reduce the extent of non-revenue water from the current 45 per cent to about 15 per cent, two major infrastructure upgrade projects in the catchment areas of the Wazirabad and Chandrawal water treatment plants (WTPs) have been planned. A provision of Rs 4.75 billion has been made in the budget for the Chandrawal WTP. The allocations aim to operationalise WTPs, expand supply networks and replace ageing transmission lines in Delhi.
