315 projects completed under Sagarmala Programme

Under the Sagarmala programme, a total of 315 projects have been completed, while 210 are currently under implementation and another 320 are in the planning phase. The programme has witnessed the completion of 120 port modernisation projects, adding over 400 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of new port capacity. Additionally, 106 road and rail connectivity projects have been finalised, significantly improving cargo evacuation. These efforts have boosted coastal shipping cargo from 87 mtpa to 195 mtpa (a 118 per cent rise) and inland waterways cargo from 18.10 mtpa to 145.50 mtpa (a 700 per cent increase), while also reducing logistics costs by shifting freight to waterways.

Under the Sagarmala Programme, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) has sanctioned 129 projects worth Rs 90.54 billion with funding of Rs 33.46 billion. Of these, 78 projects worth Rs 23.57 billion with funding of Rs 18.01 billion by the MoPSW have been completed. A third-party evaluation by the National Productivity Council highlights improved cargo handling efficiency and operational performance. Additionally, 19 road and rail connectivity projects worth Rs 14.97 billion have been sanctioned with the financial support of Rs 3.66 billion. These projects aim to ease cargo evacuation and reduce bottlenecks, further strengthening India’s port-led development strategy.
