Indian Railways (IR) has provided fencing to 16,398 km of its railway tracks till March 18, 2026, across 16 zones. Zone-wise progress on fencing includes, 2,721 km of North Central Railway (NCR), 2,326 km of South Central Railway (SCR), 2,257 km of Western Railway (WR), 1,539 km of North Western Railway (NWR), 1,415 West Central Railway (WCR), 966 km of Central Railway (CR), 827 km of Southern Railway (SR), 754 km of Eastern Railway (ER), 736 km of Northern Railway (NR), 730 km of East Central Railway (ECR), 613 km of North Eastern Railway (NER), 533 km of East Coast Railway (ECoR), 365 km of South East Central Railway (SECR), 255 km of South Western Railway (SWR), 209 km of South Eastern Railway (SER), and 153 km of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR). Besides, about 150 km out of total 290 km of fencing with pedestrian subways has already been completed on the Lonavala-Pune-Daund section. The total sanctioned cost of fencing on this section is Rs 2.09 billion.
