Indian Railways (IR) has deployed 8,570 km of optical fibre cable for Kavach on high-density routes like Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah, as of February 2026. Other progress includes the installation of 938 telecom towers, 5,672 route km (rkm) of track side equipment, and provision of Kavach in 4,154 locomotives and 767 station data centres.
Further, track-side Kavach implementation work has been undertaken on 23,360 rkm, covering all golden quadrilateral (GQ), golden diagonal (GD), high density network (HDN) and other identified sections of IR. Besides, tender has been finalised for equipping 6,300 electric locomotives with Kavach 4.0 while another tender for equipping 2,679 diesel locomotives is under finalisation. Furthermore, IR registered fund utilisation of Rs 25.73 billion on Kavach till December 2025.
