Ministry of Railways prepares DPR for two rail projects in Jammu and Kashmir

The Ministry of Railways (MoR) has prepared the detailed project report (DPR) for the Qazigund-Srinagar-Budgam New Rail Line Project and Baramulla-Uri New Rail Line Project.

Qazigund-Srinagar-Budgam New Rail Line Project involves construction of 118 km long new rail line from Qazigund to Budgam via Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir.

Baramulla-Uri New Rail Line Project proposes a new 40 km broad-gauge railway line from Baramulla to Uri in Jammu and Kashmir, extending the existing Jammu-Udhampur-Katra-Qazigund-Baramulla New Rail Line Project. It will require land acquisition and include three road under-bridges (RUBs) and nine road over-bridges (ROBs), passing through Baramulla, Sheeri, Gantmulla, Boniyar, Limber, Nougram, and Lagama.

Meanwhile, the proposal for the Sopore-Kupwara New Rail Line Project has been found to be unfeasible. The project had envisaged the construction of a 33.7 km rail line to connect the border district of Kupwara to the railway network.

Furthemore, work is in progress for the Rajouri-Poonch rail section of the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch New Line Railway Project. The project involves laying a 223 km new line from Jammu to Poonch via Rajouri in Jammu & Kashmir.
