Maharashtra’s Forest Department has issued the government resolution permitting JNPA to conduct a geotechnical survey on 295.23 hectares of forested land at Khanivade and Gargaon villages in Palghar district for Vadhvan Port. Following this, JNPA will identify 100 hectares of land for quarrying based on the geotechnical survey results. The 295.23 hectares will retain its legal status during testing, with no tree felling permitted. The project will be developed as a landlord port by Vadhvan Port Project Limited (VPPL), a JV of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, as the lead partner with an equity participation of 74 per cent and the Maharashtra Maritime Board with 26 per cent, at an estimated cost of Rs 762.2 billion with a capacity of 298 mtpa, including 9.87 million TEUs.
