The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has approved Uttar Pradesh’s first artificial intelligence (AI)-based road safety project, marking a major step towards tech-enabled governance. The project, which is a first for the country, will be carried out by mLogica and state-run ITI Limited without any funding from the federal government.
In the state’s 2025-2026 budget, the administration has allocated Rs 100 milliono modernise road safety, traffic enforcement, and transportation documentation through the use of AI and big data analytics.
In order to identify accident-prone areas, forecast high-risk areas, and produce real-time dashboards for decision makers, the six-week proof-of-concept phase will incorporate a variety of data elements, including accident logs, vehicle telematics, road infrastructure, weather, and driver history.
The AI system will be expanded after the pilot to expedite services such as revenue tracking, e-challan, faceless licence permit system, and interaction with Vahan-Sarathi network. Across departments, automated document verification, real-time fraud detection, and predictive violation alerts will become regular.
The program supports the state’s efforts to improve public services through transparency, fewer accidents, and AI-powered decision-making.
