The Odisha government has announced the ‘Zero Accident Day’ campaign, marking a major step to improve road safety. This campaign, in partnership with IIT-Madras, will continue till June 28, 2025.
Furthermore, a number of road safety initiatives and infrastructure projects valued at approximately Rs 5.75 billion have been announced. Around 11 automated driving testing systems (ADTS), at a cost of Rs 0.24 billion have been inaugurated in different districts.
The second phase of the Disha (Driving Electronic Enforcement to Save Human Lives) project, which would span 485 km at a cost of Rs 2.15 billion, has been introduced. Around 15 ultra-premium buses, known as the ‘Shri Jagannath Express’, at a cost of Rs 0.27 billion, have also been launched to improve public transport. The first autonomous vehicle testing facility has been inaugurated in Cuttack, with plans to build 20 more at an estimated cost of Rs 2.11 billion. Additionally, the Atal Bus Stand at Basudevpur, Dhamra, and Basta have also been opened for public use.
