The Kempegowda International Airport at Bengaluru in Karnataka witnessed the launch of a domestic cargo terminal.
The facility is reportedly the largest greenfield domestic cargo terminal in terms of design capacity in the country. The terminal is spread over an area of more than 7 acres, spans around 240,000 square feet, and has a peak handling capacity of 360,000 tonnes, scalable to 400,000 tonnes.
It is to be operated by the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) in collaboration with Menzies Aviation.
The facility features 42 truck docks, 400 specially designed cargo bins, and 30 unit loading device (ULD) build-up and breakdown stations, among others. Additionally, the terminal would streamline operations, improve timelines, and reduce human touchpoints through digital solutions including real-time shipment tracking and data analytics.
