The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is currently in talks with investors, to raise around Rs 90 billion for the National Highways Infra Trust (NHIT). This will be the largest fundraising round for the state-backed trust to date.
The funds would be utilised to acquire a variety of road assets from NHAI. Further, under this round of monetisation, the infrastructure investment trust (InvIT) aims to acquire and add around six highways spanning 500 km across Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Gujarat.
Large institutional owners who now own a 50 per cent investment in the InvIT, including Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP) and CPP Investments, are likely to participate, along with domestic institutional investors like insurance firms, corporate treasuries, and family offices.
