On January 10, 2025, the Bihar cabinet approved the proposal for the acquisition of 89.75 acres of land worth Rs 2.45 billion for the transformation and development of Darbhanga airport into an international one. The land is to be transferred to the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The state government earlier transferred 76.85 acres to AAI in 2024. The project will include the development of a terminal building, cargo complex, multi level car parking and other structures. Approval was also given for the acquisition of 139 acres of land worth Rs 2.07 billion for the expansion of
Raxaul airport.
