The Central Government has approved the Amaravati Outer Ring-Road (ORR) project following clearance by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) project approval committee. After extensive discussions, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has submitted a revised detailed project report (DPR) addressing committee concerns, which included the suspension of the Vijayawada East bypass due to duplication.
Spanning 189 km, the ORR aims to accelerate development in Vijayawada, Guntur, Bapatla, Krishna, and Palnadu districts. The project’s total cost is Rs 160 billion, including land acquisition.
The committee has revised the proposed six-lane width from 150-meter to 70-meter, enabling an eight-lane road while controlling costs. It has further clarified that land acquired under the National Highways Act cannot be repurposed for railway tracks, urging the state to secure additional land for such needs.
