Land acquisition commences for road and rail connectivity to Vadhvan Port in Maharashtra

The land acquisition of 574 hectares (ha) has commenced for the Tawa Junction-Vadhavan Port road connectivity project [National Highway (NH)-48] and New Palghar Station-Vadhvan Port rail connectivity project. Of the total land, 50 per cent of land falls under forest while the remaining is owned by various private players.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has applied for forest clearance for construction of eight-lane access-controlled highways for connectivity to the port.

The Tawa Junction-Vadhvan Port road connectivity project (NH-48) involves construction of a 32 km long two-lane road to link Vadhvan Port in the Palghar district of Maharashtra to NH-48. This road will be part of the dedicated connectivity to Vadhvan, with plans to extend it as required for full road connectivity to the port.

The New Palghar Station-Vadhvan Port rail connectivity project involves construction of a 12 km railway line connecting the port to the New Palghar station on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor at an estimated cost of Rs 17.65 billion.

Besides, phase-I and phase-II of the Vadhvan Port project are expected to be completed by 2029 and 2039, respectively.
