Merger of Air India and Vistara witnesses completion 

The Tata Group has reportedly completed the merger of Air India and Vistara, to create a full-service carrier under the Air India brand.

The merger marks a significant milestone and completes the Air India Group’s consolidation and restructuring phase of the post-privatisation transformation journey. Over 6,000 employees of Vistara have joined Air India’s organisation, more than 4,000 vendor contracts have been consolidated, and 270,000 customer bookings have been transferred.

The Singapore Airlines (SIA) which previously held a 49 per cent stake in Vistara, currently holds a stake of 25.1 per cent in the expanded Air India group. It further plans to invest more capital in the entity.

The merged entity now has a fleet of 208 aircraft and operates more than 5,600 weekly flights across 90 domestic and international destinations. Further, the larger Air India group which comprises of Air India and the merged Air India Express with AIX Connect has a total fleet of 300 aircraft operating over 8,300 weekly flights on 312 routes.
