Hyderabad metro rail phase-II gets Telangana cabinet’s clearance

The Telangana cabinet has given the approval for the phase II of the Hyderabad metro rail project, with an estimated budget of Rs 242.69 billion. This expansion is set to be completed within four years.

The project will be executed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, involving both central and state government participation. The state government is expected to contribute 30 per cent of the total cost, amounting to Rs 73.13 billion, while the centre will fund 18 per cent, which translates to Rs 42.30 billion. The remaining 52 per cent of the financing will be sourced through loans.

The second phase of the Hyderabad metro rail project will introduce five new corridors designed to enhance connectivity throughout the city. These corridors are as follows: the Nagole to Shamshabad Airport line, which spans 36.8 km, the Raidurg to Kokapet to Neopolis route, measuring 11.6 km, the Mahatma Gandhi bus station (MGBS) to Chandrayangutta line, covering 7.5 km, the Miyapur to Patancheru corridor, extending 13.4 km, and the L.B. Nagar to Hayatnagar line, which is 7.1 km long.

The metro’s current capacity accommodates approximately 500,000 passengers daily, and the addition of phase II is projected to allow for an extra 800,000 riders.
