The Union government laid the foundation stones for the Varanasi Airport expansion project, the Kheria (Agra) Airport upgradation project, the Bagdogra Airport civil enclave project and the Darbhanga Airport civil enclave project on October 20, 2024.
The Varanasi Airport expansion project, Uttar Pradesh involves the construction of a new terminal building with a capacity of 6 million passengers per annum (mppa), runway extension, apron extension, and parallel taxi track at the airport. It also involves the expansion of the airport capacity from 3.9 mppa to 9.9 mppa. It will be implemented by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and is likely to entail an investment of Rs 28.7 billion.
The Kheria Airport upgradation project involves the upgradation of the Kheria airport at Dhanaula Road in the Agra district of Uttar Pradesh into an international airport on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode on an area of 119,263 square meters. It is likely to entail an investment of Rs 5.79 billion.
The Bagdogra Airport new civil enclave project involves the development of a civil enclave in West Bengal. It will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 15.49 billion to cater to a capacity of 10 mppa. It also involves the construction of an apron with 10 parking bays for A-321 type aircraft, two link taxiways, and a multi-level car parking facility.
The Darbhanga Airport civil enclave project involves the development of a permanent civil enclave consisting of a terminal building, external development with road network and landscape and related utility buildings at the airport in Bihar at an estimated cost of Rs 9.1 billion. The terminal will be expanded from 1,400 square meters to 51,800 square meters with an increase in the passenger capacity from 1,500 passengers per day to 8,000 passengers per day.
