TBM S-639B commissioned for second drive for package KNPCC-06 under Kanpur metro phase I in Uttar Pradesh

Tunnel boring machine (TBM) S-639B has been commissioned for the second drive for package KNPCC-06 under the Kanpur metro rail project-phase I from Transport Nagar Ramp.

The package involves the design and construction of a tunnel through  TBM, a cut and cover tunnel, an underground ramp from Kanpur Central end of Nayaganj station to an elevated ramp after Transport Nagar, and three underground metro stations viz. Kanpur Central, Jhakarkatti and Transport Nagar including architectural finishes, electrical and mechanical (E&M), tunnel ventilation system (TVS), environmental control system, etc. on Indian Institute of Technology-Naubasta via Jhakarkati bus terminal corridor (corridor 1). The joint venture of Afcons Infrastructure Limited and Sam India Builtwell Private Limited were awarded the contract for the same.

The Kanpur metro project involves development of 33 km long metro rail system in the state of Uttar Pradesh at an investment of Rs 110.76 billion.
