On August 16, 2024, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the development of new civil enclaves at the Bagdogra and Bihta airports, entailing a total investment amounting to Rs 29.62 billion.
The new civil enclave at Bagdogra, West Bengal would have a terminal spanning 70,390 square metres (sq m) with an annual passenger handling capacity of 10 million, and a 3,000 peak hour passenger capacity. It would entail an investment of Rs 15.49 billion. Other works include the construction of an apron with 10 parking bays, two link taxiways, and a multi-level car parking facility.
The new civil enclave at the Bihta airport, Bihar would feature a new terminal spanning 66,000 sq m, entailing an investment of Rs 14.13 billion. It would have an initial passenger handling capacity of 3,000 during peak hours and an annual passenger capacity of five million, with an expansion potential to 10 million. The project would also comprise of an apron with 10 parking bays and two link taxiways.
