DP World starts using green energy at its Nhava Sheva terminals

DP World has started using green energy at its Nhava Sheva terminals including the Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT) and the Nhava Sheva India Gateway Terminal (NSIGT), starting July 1, 2024.

With a cumulative capacity of 11 megawatts, this green energy initiative is expected to replace about 75 per cent and 80 per cent of conventional energy needs at NSICT and NSIGT, respectively. This will result in a 50 per cent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

The company is converting its existing diesel-powered equipment fleet to electric. It has commissioned four rubber tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) and electrified 15 RTGs at the International Container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT) Cochin in Kerala; added two electric quay cranes each at Mundra International Container Terminal in Gujarat and ICTT; and introduced three electric rail-mounted gantries for NSICT.
