The National Highways Authority of India has finalised plans to complete the Trichy Semi-Ring Road project, connecting five national highways through the city, ten years after initial work began. The project includes upgrading a two-lane segment to four lanes, constructing an elevated corridor on the Trichy-Madurai national highway, and building a flyover to link two stages of the semi-ring road. Construction on the revised plan is expected to start in 2025.
To streamline traffic in the city, NHAI has merged three separate projects for the semi-ring road. Stage I of the semi-ring road will extend 19.9 km from Panjapur to Jeeyapuram (Karur NH) via Thayanur (Dindigul NH) and will feature four lanes. The entire 45.80 km section has the necessary land available, however, the detailed project report (DPR) will confirm if any additional property is required.
