The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) is planning to construct a 70 km long sewage pipeline under the Adyar River Rejuvenation Project in Tamil Nadu. The pipeline will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 15 billion.
The construction work is likely to commence soon. Works from Saidapet to Thiru Vi Ka bridge will be prioritised with a completion time of 15 months.
The scope of the project includes the construction of sewage treatment plants at Dr Radhakrishnapuram on Greenways Road, Lock Street East, Chitra Nagar at Kotturpuram, Jothiammal Nagar and Thideer Nagar in Saidpet, Nesapakkam and Burma Colony in Ramapuram; Manapakkam, Meenambakkam, Tharapakkam, Anakaputhur, Tambaram, and Varadarajapuram having a combined capacity of 110 million litres per day along the 44 km long Adyar river. It also includes plugging of sewage outfalls along with beautification works.
The project is likely to be completed in 30 months at an estimated cost of Rs 47.78 billion. The project will be executed through the Chennai Rivers Restoration Trust on a public-private partnership basis under the ‘One River, One Operator’ model.
