RITES Limited proposes PPP model for Tricity Metro Project

RITES limited has proposed exploring a public-private partnership (PPP) model to reduce the cost of the Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Mohali (Tricity) Metro Project.
RITES encouraged all forms of PPP and proposed private participation in non-core activities like the automatic fare collection system. Besides, alternative analysis report (AAR) and detailed project report (DPR) are likely to be submitted to the Central government soon.
The project involves the development of 39 km long metro rail transit system connecting Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali at an estimated cost of Rs 105.70 billion. The project will be implemented in two phases. Phase I (2027-2037) will include three stretches: Sarangpur to ISBT Panchkula (18 km), Rock Garden to ISBT Zirakpur (35 km), and Grain Market Chowk to Transport Nagar (13 km). Phase II (2037 onwards) will include four stretches: ISBT Panchkula to Panchkula Extension (4.5 km), Parul to Sarangpur (5.5 km), Airport Chowk to Manakpur Kallar (5 km) and ISBT Zirakpur to Pinjore (20km).
