The Government of India, under the purview of the National Logistics Policy, has implemented the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP), which aims to break individual silos, promoting integration among various ministries/departments and creating a single window, thus bringing efficiency and transparency in the trade. ULIP has emerged as a digital gateway for the logistics ecosystem to access the data available with various government systems for tracking/tracing, authentication, document digitisation, process automation and discovery services.
Key features of ULIP
ULIP has been designed as an independent virtual gateway without impacting or interfering with the regulatory and operational procedure of any concerned ministry. All modes of logistics (sea, air, road, rail and waterways) are covered under ULIP, irrespective of the type of cargo. Data is exchanged through application programing interfaces (APIs) in a request-response-based manner, which makes the onboarding of a new system faster and simpler. There is a dedicated interface available for trade and industry players for fetching the relevant data based on a rule-driven mechanism.
ULIP has been integrated with 33 systems of seven different ministries through 106 APIs covering more than 1,600 fields. It has a dedicated portal, https://goulip.in/, which makes the process of data requests simpler, faster and transparent. A dedicated support team works round the clock to provide support to industry players for registration on the portal. Following the registration, users need to submit their use cases, which are then reviewed based on the proposed usage of the requested data.
Within seven months of its launch on September 17, 2022, the ULIP portal has received registrations from registrations from more than 530 industry players. Of these, 81 entities have signed non-disclosure agreements and are availing of the benefits of the ULIP platform. More than 70 million API transactions have commenced by industry players so far over the ULIP gateway.
Major industry players such as Prism Johnson Limited, DHL, Safexpress, Ultratech, TCIL, Jindal Stainless, Tata Steel, Yes Bank, BOSCH and the Total Group have been onboarded on ULIP to develop their use cases, which will benefit them as well as their stakeholders.
