In a notable development, Alstom has delivered 300 electric locomotives to IR. This marks a significant milestone in increasing IR’s capability to haul heavy freight trains at high speed to meet its ambitious freight targets. As a part of its contract worth Euro 3.5 billion, Alstom is supplying 800 high-powered double-section locomotives of 12,000 HP for freight service. The 300th e-locomotive was flagged off from Alstom’s locomotive maintenance depot in Nagpur.
Wi-Fi facility provided at more than 6,100 stations
Wi-Fi facility has been provided at 6,108 stations as of March 29, 2023. The provision of Wi-Fi at stations depends on the availability of infrastructure such as optic fibre cable. Meanwhile, as a part of its Sugamya Bharat Mission, IR is committed to making all its railway stations and trains accessible for persons with disabilities.
