GAIL (India) Limited plans to build a green hydrogen plant in its effort to supplement its natural gas business with carbon-free fuel. The plant, with a planned capacity of 10 MW, is the largest announced plant so far in the country. It will take 12-14 months to build. The company has finalised two-three sites for the unit, including one at Vijaipur in Madhya Pradesh. The hydrogen produced can be sold to fertiliser units, which, as per the government mandate, are required to use hydrogen as fuel. Further, 20 LNG dispensing stations will be set up on the Golden Quadrilateral by March 2022 and 500-600 outlets over the next three to four years, to reach the target of 1,000 LNG stations.
