Centre plans to double oil exploration acreage in North East region

The Government of India (GoI) plans to double the oil and gas exploration acreage in the Northeast from 30,000 square km to 60,000 square km by 2024-25. It also aims to expand the national natural gas pipeline network to 34,000 km. By 2030, the GoI intends to increase the refining capacity from 250 mtpa to 400 mtpa, in addition to inc­rea­sing the share of natural gas in the energy mix from 6 per cent at present to 15 per cent.
