MoPSW laid the foundation stone for various capacity augmentation projects at Deendayal Port on October 19, 2021. They include two dome-shaped godowns to be constructed within 12 months at a cost of Rs 360 million, which will increase the covered storage capacity by 145,000 tonnes; Oil Jetty No.8 at Old Kandla, which will be constructed in a period of 18 months at a cost of Rs 990 million and will increase the optimal capacity of the port by 3.5 million tonnes per annum, while reducing the waiting period turnaround time of vessels; a parking plaza for trucks/vehicles with ancillary facilities such as canteen, garage and rest shelter, being developed at a cost of Rs 145.9 million for pre-gate verification of documents to ease congestion of vehicles at the gates, corresponding with digital initiatives such as enterprise business system and radio frequency identification being installed at these gates; and modernisation of the existing pipeline network at a cost of Rs 1.27 billion to improve the operational efficiency and handling capacity of edible oil and chemicals at the port.
