The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has launched a mobile application and a toll-free emergency number for highway users. The Sukhad Yatra mobile application has been developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in order to allow road users to feed in road quality-related information or report any accident/potholes on the highways. It also provides users with real-time data related to expected waiting time at toll plazas and various facilities like highway nests and highway villages, etc., available across the highway. In addition, the application can also be used for purchasing FASTags. Further, a toll-free number, 1033, will enable users to report an emergency condition, or provide highway-related feedback. The service is also integrated with various ambulance/tow-away services along the road to ensure rapid response in an emergency. The service is available in multiple languages and has user location tracking features to provide the user with accurate and responsive complaint resolution.
Meanwhile, the MoRTH also plans to set up at least one model driving training centre in each district of all states and union territories. Financial assistance of up to Rs 0.01 billion will be provided by the MoRTH for the same. The agency will also invest an equal amount of the grant under the scheme. Further, under the scheme for grant of financial assistance for undertaking road safety advocacy, assistance up to Rs 0.5 million will be provided to non-governmental organisations/trusts/cooperative societies and other agencies for administering the road safety programme.
