New gas pipeline to be set up in the Northeast

The centre has agreed in principle to set up a gas pipeline from Barauni in Bihar to Guwahati in Assam at an estimated cost of Rs 40 billion. The pipeline will be connected with the national grid at Barauni. As per sources, the MoPNG is said to be exploring whether GAIL (India) Limited will undertake the project or whether it will be undertaken by a consortium of Assam Gas Company Limited, Oil India Limited (OIL) and Numaligarh Refinery Limited.
