Runway extension at Birsi airport complete

The runway at the Birsi airport at Gondia has been extended by 1,000 meters, with the total length spanning 3,200 meters, facilitating the landing of larger aircraft.

The runway has been installed with an instrument landing system (ILS) that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is to soon examine before the final approval. Works for the same are in the final stages and the airport would be compatible for night landings in around a month’s time.

Gondia currently has a single commercial flight connecting it to Hyderabad. Operations are likely to commence to the Navi Mumbai airport once it is ready.
