NMCG approves projects for Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal

The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has approved various sewerage projects for execution in Bihar, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh under the Namami Gange Programme. In Bihar, three projects involving the development of sewage treatment facilities have been approved at a total cost of Rs 14.61 billion. The facilities will be developed at Digha (with a capacity of 100 mld), Kankarbagh (50 mld) and Barh (11 mld). In West Bengal, projects worth Rs 4.95 billion have been approved. Two of these projects pertain to the creation of an aggregate sewage treatment capacity of 91 mld in Howrah and Adi Ganga. The scope of the third project in the state involves river front development works in Nabadwip town. The sewerage projects in Kankarbah and Digha in Bihar, and Howrah in West Bengal will be implemented on a hybrid annuity-based PPP model. Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh, a 2 mld sewage treatment plant (STP) will be created at Chunar in Mirzapur. Further, interception and diversion works of drains will also be undertaken. A total project value of Rs 279.8 million has been approved for the state. The NMCG has also approved a project to establish Ganga monitoring centres across the five riparian Ganga states at an estimated cost of Rs 466.9 million.
