Environmental clearance granted for Mumbai’s T2 terminal upgradation, Dagadarthi and Orvakal greenfield airports; recommendation for Hyderabad airport expansion

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has granted environmental clearances for the Mumbai airport T2 terminal upgradation project, and for the Dagadarthi and Orvakal greenfield airport projects. The Mumbai project involves the completion of balance works for passenger terminals, cargo terminals, apron expansion, taxiway extension, etc. Meanwhile, the Dagadarthi project involves the development of a regional airport at Dagadarthi in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh at an investment of Rs 2.93 billion. Besides, the Orvakal project involves the development of a regional airport at Orvakal in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh at an investment of Rs 2.31 billion. The foundation stone for the project has already been laid and the project is expected to be completed by May 2018. Further, the expert appraisal committee of the MoEFCC has also recommended the grant of environmental clearance for the Hyderabad airport expansion project involving the expansion of terminal capacity from the existing 12 million passengers per annum (mppa) to 25 mppa at an investment of Rs 26.29 billion. A final decision will now be taken by the MoEFCC on the same.
