The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) in Maharashtra is planning to set up two tertiary sewage treatment plants (STPs) in Worli and Bandra. The projects, a part of MCGM’s Mumbai Sewage Disposal Project, will cost at least Rs 15 billion each. Together, the plants will yield at least 400 million litres of treated sewage. The Worli STP is expected to process at least 500 mld of sewage. Further, it will yield 400 mld treated sewage daily which can be utilised by commercial users and housing societies. The Bandra STP is expected to have an average capacity to process 400 mld of sewage and yield 320 mld of treated sewage. Once the tendering process for the projects is over, they are expected to take about five years for completion.
